Chin Translator works without an account — we never ask for your name, email address, or phone number. The app requests no permission beyond network access: no microphone, camera, contacts, photos, or location. The text you translate is sent to our translation service to produce a result, and we keep an anonymous copy of it to monitor and improve Chin-language translation quality. Your translation history stays on your own device, and you can switch it off or clear it at any time.
Who operates Chin Translator
Chin Translator is built and operated by Chinland InfoTech, which is the contact responsible for this policy.
This policy covers the Chin Translator mobile app for Android and iOS and the translation service it calls. It does not cover the chintranslator.com website, which is a separate product with accounts, batch translation, and a developer API — the policy published at chintranslator.com/terms applies there. It does not describe unrelated third-party sites you may visit.
Data the app processes
- Text you submit. When you tap translate, the text you entered is sent to the Chin Translator service together with the language direction (English ↔ Chin Falam) and the result mode you chose — Smart, Translate, or Dictionary. It travels over an encrypted HTTPS connection.
- No account information. The app does not ask you to register, sign in, or provide a name, email address, or phone number. Requests are made anonymously.
- Device permissions. The app declares internet access, and on Android also network-state access, which it uses only to tell whether the device is currently online. It does not request the microphone, camera, contacts, photos, calendar, or location, and it does not create or use an advertising identifier.
- Data stored on your device. Your theme preference, your “save translation history” setting, and — while that setting is on — up to the 50 most recent translations are stored locally on the device. They are not synced to an account or uploaded to us.
- Connection status. The app checks whether the device is online so it can tell you when a translation cannot be sent. This check happens on the device.
- Your network address. Like any internet request, yours reaches our servers with the network (IP) address it came from. We use it to apply fair-use quotas and rate limits and to protect the service from abuse, and we keep ordinary infrastructure access and error logs. It is not stored alongside your text.
Why we use this data
We process this data to:
- translate the text you submit and return dictionary results;
- keep your theme and history preferences on your device;
- apply fair-use quotas, prevent abuse of a free service, and keep the service available; and
- diagnose faults, and monitor and improve Chin-language translation quality — including improving the translation models themselves.
Where local law requires a legal basis, these activities are performed to provide the service you request and for our legitimate interests in security and product quality.
Where data is processed and who else is involved
The app sends translation requests over encrypted HTTPS connections to Chinland InfoTech's translation service at api.chintranslator.com. We use cloud hosting, database, and caching providers acting on our behalf to run that service.
The app ships with its typefaces bundled and does not fetch them at runtime, so it contacts no third party other than our own service. It contains no advertising, analytics, or crash-reporting SDK.
We may disclose information if required by law, to protect users or the service, or as part of a business reorganisation with appropriate safeguards. We do not sell or rent your translation text or device information.
Depending on where you live and where our service providers operate, processing may occur outside your country.
Retention and caching
- Quality-monitoring records, kept for 12 months. To check that translations are coming out well, we keep a copy of the text you submitted and the translation it produced, together with the language direction and timing information. These records are anonymous: they carry no name, account, email address, device identifier, or network address, and hold no identifier that could connect a record to you, to your device, or to any other record. We use them only to monitor and improve translation quality — we do not sell them, share them, or use them for advertising or profiling. They are deleted after 12 months.
- Translation history stays on your device. It holds at most the 50 most recent items, older ones drop off automatically, and it remains until you turn saving off, clear it, or uninstall the app. We cannot read it and it is never uploaded.
- Short-lived server cache. To make repeated requests fast and reduce cost, a translated result may be held in a temporary cache for about an hour, indexed by a one-way hash of the submitted text. Dictionary lookups may be cached for about a day. Cached entries expire automatically and are not attached to you or your device.
- Fair-use counters are content-free. Separately from the records above, we keep counters such as the operation type, a timestamp, and the daily request count to enforce quotas and understand load. These counters contain none of your text.
- Rate-limit records tied to a network address expire with the protection window. Hosting providers may retain access or security logs under their own operational schedules.
Because quality-monitoring records contain whatever you typed, please do not submit passwords, financial details, health information, or other sensitive content you would not want retained.
Your choices and deletion requests
You can turn off “save translation history” so new translations are not stored, clear the existing history from Settings or the History screen, and uninstall the app to remove everything it keeps on the device. Turning history off does not affect translation itself.
Deleting quality-monitoring records. Those records hold nothing that identifies you, so we cannot look up “everything submitted by this person” — there is no name, account, or address to search on. What each record does store is a one-way fingerprint of the submitted text, and that gives you a way to have them removed: tell us the exact text you submitted, and we will find every record matching it and delete them.
Two things to know. It removes every copy of that exact text regardless of who submitted it — but because the records are anonymous, this affects no one's account, history, or service. And a fingerprint only matches text that is character-for-character identical, so send the wording exactly as you entered it. Beyond that, the retention period above clears all records in due course, and if you would rather a translation never be retained at all, do not submit it.
To ask a question about this policy, make a deletion request, or raise a privacy concern, email admin@chinlandinfotech.com. Include “Chin Translator privacy request” and enough information for us to help, but do not send additional sensitive content.
Your rights may vary by location. We may need to verify a request before acting on it, and we may retain limited records where required for security, fraud prevention, or legal obligations.
Security
Translation requests travel over encrypted HTTPS. Access to stored records is restricted to the people who operate the service, and the service applies request size limits, quotas, and operational safeguards intended to protect data. No system can guarantee absolute security, so we hold no accounts and keep no identifying records on the server.
Please avoid submitting passwords, financial details, health information, or other sensitive content you would not want processed by an online service.
Children
Chin Translator is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal data that we retain, contact us so we can review and delete it where required.
Policy changes
We may update this policy when the app, its service providers, or our retention practices change. The effective date at the top will be revised, and material changes may also be explained in the app or in release notes.
